The Rich and Diverse World of Spanish Cuisine
Spanish food is basically folk food. Although Spain has been a country ruled by a kingdom for many years, the taste for food has not spread from the palace downwards. Spanish cuisine is famous for its dishes that are more spicy than other European country cuisines made with olive oil. In addition, every region in Spain has its own unique dishes. In this context, Spanish cuisine consists of eight major regional cuisines; Basque, Andalusian, Galician, Canary, Castilian, Catalonia, Majorca, Valencia. Spanish food culture is based on eating at frequent intervals but little by little, in a way that best reflects Mediterranean-style December diet. Spaniards start their day with a light breakfast that they make early in the morning. Their breakfast is quite light and fast. No matter how busy people are in Spain, they do not have the habit of snacking with sandwiches. Lunch takes 2 hours. Dinners are often eaten after 20.00 or even 21:00.
